As of 2015, all businesses are eligible for the general and enhanced tax deductions when donating excess food inventory to a qualified 501(c)3. Certain states may also offer supplemental tax benefits; Massachusetts does not. For additional guidance, we recommend referencing the Harvard Food Law & Policy Clinic's guidance on tax incentives.

Spoiler Alert makes it easy for businesses to track these donations for accounting purposes. At the completion of each donation, users will receive an email receipt that documents the recipient organization, their Tax ID, volume, estimated value, and date. Additionally, a compilation of donations over a period of time is summarized in the Activity tab. Users are encouraged to set up the appropriate filters to export these data for their accountants. Alternatively, the company's accountant can set up an Spoiler Alert account and access the data directly.
